What is Boobie Cactus
The Boobie Cactus , commonly known as Myrtillocactus geometrizans or Blue Myrtle Cactus, is a large, highly branched cactus native to Southern Mexico. It has a distinctive appearance with blue-grey stems, 5 to 8 ribs lined with areoles, each bearing 3 to 9 very short spines. The cactus grows to a height of 4-5 meters (13-16.4 feet) and resembles a candelabra when mature, with a crown reaching up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) in width. The Myrtillocactus geometrizans produces pale yellow flowers, and its fruit is a dark purple to red, edible, sweet berry.
In terms of growing conditions, the Boobie Cactus thrives in full sun, and requires low water levels and well-drained, sandy soil. It’s a relatively easy-to-care-for plant with minimal maintenance requirements, and can be propagated via cuttings or seeds. For thriving growth, it’s advisable not to let the temperatures drop below -4 degrees Celsius (24.8 degrees Fahrenheit), and ideally, maintain temperatures above 10 degrees Celsius (50 degrees Fahrenheit), especially during winter.
